Storm King Art CenterI love, love, love this place. A fantastic outdoor sculpture park with 500 acres of rolling hills, fields and woodlands which provide the setting for a collection of more than 100 sculptures created by some of the most acclaimed artists of our time, including Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Andy Goldsworthy and Mark di Suvero. It’s about a 1-hour drive south of Woodstock, a nice way to break up your journey if you are heading back to New York City. This year (2014) the park is open from April 3 until the end of November (closed Mondays and Tuesdays, except for the holiday Mondays of Memorial, Labor & Columbus Days).

You can either explore the park by foot, tram (trams leave every 30 minutes from various locations and you can hop on and off as you wish) or bike (you can take your own bike or rent bikes on a first come first served basis). Touring Storm King by bicycle is a great way to experience the art and landscape. Bike rental is $8/$10 per hour with a two-hour minimum, or $32/$40 for the day (weekday/weekend). You can easily spend a day here exploring. There is a cafe but if you are going to bike it I’d recommend taking a picnic lunch.

The park is located just off I-87. The address for your GPS is 1 Museum Road, New Windsor, NY 12553.
